An unexpectedly hard shot by Joel Gaona in the 6th minute of play forced El Fortín de Floresta's goalkeeper Santos Orlan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Desiderio Brais's late challenge caught a Mexico's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Desiderio Brais helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to El Fortín de Floresta getting a freekick after 9 minutes play. Desiderio Brais hit a great ball. After 11 played minutes El Fortín de Floresta got a freekick which was hit by Cipriano Aguilera. Santos Orlan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. After some careless play in the El Fortín de Floresta defense, Alberto Tafalla kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Santos Orlan. The El Fortín de Floresta fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Santos Orlan should have stopped the shot. The supporters of Mexico booed when El Fortín de Floresta was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alvino Tinto didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 33rd minute, Alberto Tafalla ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Santos Orlan was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Mexico's Dante Lacasa proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 36th minute of the match, managed to save Mexico from getting a goal against them. El Fortín de Floresta's Santos Orlan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lautaro Mancebo in the 37th minute of play. In the 43rd minute, Lautaro Mancebo left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Mexico fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-3. Desiderio Brais got his second yellow card in the match during the 46th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. The supporters of Mexico booed when El Fortín de Floresta was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Desiderio Brais didn't get a good kick on the ball. Joel Gaona took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 47th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Santos Orlan. El Fortín de Floresta's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 48th minute Mexico were awarded a corner. Joel Gaona went to the cornerflag to take it. Disappointed in the 1-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Joel Gaona to strike the kick off in the second half.
