Spectators: 40 (Terracing: 31, Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) In the 4th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vladan Kovačević saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 5 minutes into the match, Newell´s's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Vladan Kovačević reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 7 minutes into the match, Newell´s's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Vladan Kovačević reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 9 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Marcos Giraldo. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcos Giraldo in the 11th minute of play. Newell´s were awarded a corner in the 13th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Marcos Giraldo took the corner. Vladan Kovačević showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 19th minute of the match. Newell´s's Vladan Kovačević played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 20th minute of play. After 22 played minutes Newell´s got a freekick which was hit by Jose Montez. Vladan Kovačević showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. When Ecuador's Daniel Zorita in the 29th minute got a chance for a shot 29th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Newell´s's goalie prevented a goal. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marcos Giraldo in the 32nd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 34th minute of play forced Newell´s's goalkeeper Vladan Kovačević to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Vladan Kovačević showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 35th minute of the match. Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 37th minute, when Marcos Giraldo sent off a good shot on target. Marcos Giraldo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 39th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 42ndth minute of the game Daniel Zorita who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Newell´s's Vladan Kovačević was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Marcos Giraldo received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Julio Vera came out and tried to block the shot, but Marcos Giraldo slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 46th minute.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Daniel Zorita to strike the kick off in the second half. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Pablo Hermon kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. Marcos Giraldo scored 3-0 in the 57th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Newell´s's Cleto Laffitte was substituted for Enzo Haritz. After a rather tough play, Newell´s's Alejandro Sabella got a free kick in the 63rd minute. Baldomiro Pierres kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. Vladan Kovačević made a fantastic save in the 66th minute, when Agustín Saelices sent off a good shot on target. Newell´s's Vladan Kovačević played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 67th minute of play. 69 minutes into the match, Newell´s's Marcos Giraldo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 70th minute Newell´s were awarded a corner. Marcos Giraldo went to the cornerflag to take it. In the 72nd minute, Baldomiro Pierres hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Julio Vera came out of the goal in the 74th minute to try and stop a shot by Newell´s's Pablo Hermon. But to his dismay, Pablo Hermon quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. Vladan Kovačević made an important save on a dangerous shot by Agustín Saelices in the 78th minute. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vladan Kovačević having to interfere. After 87 played minutes Newell´s got a freekick which was hit by Milan Baroš. After recieving a nice pass, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita tried to score from far away in the 87th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Newell´s's Vladan Kovačević proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 89th minute of the match, managed to save Newell´s from getting a goal against them. In the 90th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Camilo Gisbert to maneuver through the defense. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pablo Hermon in the 91st minute of play. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pablo Hermon in the 94th minute of the match. Newell´s were awarded a corner in the 98th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Marcos Giraldo took the corner. The corner ended in Pablo Hermon almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. The Newell´s support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
