After 16 played minutes, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Tobias Osoro came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Ecuador reached it. 18 minutes into the match, Boquenses's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Tobias Osoro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rodrigo Ferdinand in the 19th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. Boquenses's Feliciano Pancho got a good chance for a goal in the 21st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 27 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Tobias Osoro made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. When Boquenses's Nicolas Sancho in the 36th minute got a chance for a shot 36th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Ecuador's goalie prevented a goal. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rodrigo Ferdinand in the 45th minute. Gregorio Tirso recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
