Astillero del Guayas's Chucho Dean played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Darwin Núñez in the 21st minute of play. Mateo Llorienzo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Garcia Jado in the 23rd minute of play. The Merengue FC fans' excitement grew in the 24th match minute when Merengue FC's Roland Banaszak looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. After 35 played minutes, Merengue FC's Edelmiro Quintyn shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Chucho Dean came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Merengue FC reached it. Gustavo Oro hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. In the 41st minute, Edelmiro Quintyn sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Astillero del Guayas's Chucho Dean didn't even have to move. If Raimundo Gonsalvo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 46th minute, Roland Banaszak ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Chucho Dean was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-4. Disappointed in the 0-4 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Garcia Jado made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Garcia Jado in the 59th minute of play forced Merengue FC's goalkeeper Mateo Llorienzo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ismael Frances in the 60thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Chucho Dean, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. 68 minutes into the game, Merengue FC's Roland Banaszak nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Chucho Dean made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-5. Roland Banaszaks short, quick shot in the 76thth minute got Chucho Dean to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Darwin Núñez could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 80th minute of the match, but Chucho Dean made a huge save. Astillero del Guayas's Gustavo Oro got a good chance for a goal in the 91st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jorge Bojarte took the ball and in the 96 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Mateo Llorienzo. Mateo Llorienzo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-6. When the final whistle sounded Merengue FC left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Astillero del Guayas.
