If Joel Gaona had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Doriva Pombal in the 19th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dante Lacasa saved Mexico from getting behind. The audience thought a goal was coming when Doriva Pombal got free with Dante Lacasa in the 21st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When the match had gone on for 25 minutes, Jefferson Damião took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Dante Lacasa to make any attempt to save it. Mexico's Dante Lacasa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jefferson Damião in the 29th minute of play. João Augusto de Salles kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. Andrézinho Viana took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joel Gaona, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Andrézinho Viana made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lautaro Mancebo in the 34th minute of play. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Joel Gaona was the one to do the kick off. Neither set of supporters seemed pleased with the draw, but both teams had played equally well today.
