In the 21st minute the ball was on its way in behind Ballet Azul's goalkeeper José Luis Chilavert, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Leonel Sánchez made in the 29th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Peru's Alonso Berganza. Rolando Noboa made an important save on a dangerous shot by Eladio Ulloa in the 31st minute.
