Judas Verón might have been able to make a better finish in the 23rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. After 88 minutes, Clemente Gaizkine mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Belgrano de Pibasog and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 88th minute of the game. One of Belgrano de Pibasog:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Ecuador:s goal. The referee gave Ecuador a penalty, 89 minutes into the game. Julio Vera was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Iulian Ilinca showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-4 in the 96 minute of play. The Ecuador manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Belgrano de Pibasog to win.
