Jacinto Cuadrado showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luis Andino, who was totally free with the ball in the 8th minute. The supporters of Boca Juniors booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Antonio Arias didn't get a good kick on the ball. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rainerio Obis, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a free kick in the 14th minute. 18 minutes into the match, Boca Juniors's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Jacinto Cuadrado reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jacinto Cuadrado came out of the goal in the 25th minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Luis Andino. But to his dismay, Luis Andino quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. When the match clock showed 29 minutes, the score became 0-2 when Daniel Zorita sped through Boca Juniors's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Jacinto Cuadrado. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Jacinto Cuadrado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 36 minutes, Hitzeder Manrique put it in 1-2 from a short distance just to the right of Julio Vera. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rainerio Obis, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rolando Amorebieta in the 44th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 47th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gabriel Martinelli in the 53rd minute of play. Julio Vera came out of the goal in the 56th minute to try and stop a shot by Boca Juniors's Hitzeder Manrique. But to his dismay, Hitzeder Manrique quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-2. In the 61st minute of the match, Daniel Zorita got a very nice opportunity to score, but Jacinto Cuadrado was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hitzeder Manrique, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. Hitzeder Manrique took the ball and in the 74 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Julio Vera. Julio Vera dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-2. Boca Juniors made a substitution. Alexis McAllister replaced Gabriel Martinelli. After some fancy dribbling in the 78th minute, Rolando Amorebieta managed to get in a good position for a shot. Boca Juniors's supporters rose to their feet, but Rolando Amorebieta was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Hitzeder Manrique's shot from short distance in the 80th minute. The audience was convinced that Rolando Amorebieta's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 83rd minute of the game. 85 minutes into the game, Juan Sebastián Puig was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ecuador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Boca Juniors the free kick. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Juan Sebastián Puig got a free kick in the 85th minute. Ecuador's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
