The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. With 4 minutes on the clock, Antonio Arias commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. After 3 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Ecuador! Cayetano Estevez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rod Stewart in the 10th minute of play. 14 minutes into the match, DON RAMON 72's goalkeeper Jairo Primeiro had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristian Sancho. Jairo Primeiro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Agustín Saelices in the 19th minute of the match. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jairo Primeiro having to interfere. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 29 minutes into the match, DON RAMON 72's goalkeeper Jairo Primeiro had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Agustín Saelices. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Roberto Tohias during the 33rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Ecuador booed when DON RAMON 72 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Roberto Tohias didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jairo Primeiro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Felix Montenegro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 37 minutes had been played when some careless play by DON RAMON 72's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. Juan Sebastián Puig's late challenge caught a DON RAMON 72's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Juan Sebastián Puig helped the player get up and apologised. In the 45th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juan Sebastián Puig to maneuver through the defense. When the match had gone on for 47 minutes, Rod Stewart put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Julio Vera. After the first half DON RAMON 72 were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 54th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Silvano Harkaitz in the 56th minute of play. 59 minutes into the match, Cristian Sancho notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of DON RAMON 72's Jairo Primeiro. Jairo Primeiro was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. DON RAMON 72's Jairo Primeiro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Agustín Saelices in the 64th minute of play. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Rod Stewart tried to sneak it across the goal line. The referee felt a red card was in order, 69 minutes into the game, when Everardo Basajaun put in a rough tackle. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Silvano Harkaitz in the 73rd minute. Roberto Tohias kicked well hit freekick during the 75th minute of the match. Jairo Primeiro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luis Andino in the 77th minute of the match. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 86th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. Julio Vera was a little too slow when Rod Stewart got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 87th minute. The score was now 2-2. DON RAMON 72 succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Ecuador had controlled the match.
