Rigoberto Mina was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 46 minutes into the match. After 45 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Guillermo Mariano kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. 87 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Elpidio Ursino came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
