The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

In the 51st minute, Claudio Echeverri left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ríver Late fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Geovani de Salles breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 85th minute of the match, Daniel Zorita got a very nice opportunity to score, but Geovani de Salles was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Thanks to some nice moves Daniel Zorita could shoot a difficult shot in the 95th minute, which Geovani de Salles however easily saved by the left post. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Ecuador players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
