If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 12 minutes into the match, Cristian Sancho had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Silvestre Fidencio. Club A Independiente's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Cristian Sancho was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 18th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Agustín Saelices hit a great ball. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Virgilio Arotza in the 25th minute of the match. Club A Independiente's Silvestre Fidencio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 28th minute of play. In the 29th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Club A Independiente's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. Silvestre Fidencio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 29th minute of play. In the 30th minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. Virgilio Arotza charged in rather forcefully in the 31st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Virgilio Arotza the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Club A Independiente was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Virgilio Arotza didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Concetto Guarrera fell near the penalty area in the 32nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Club A Independiente's protests and gave Concetto Guarrera a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Club A Independiente was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Concetto Guarrera didn't get a good kick on the ball. 34 minutes into the match, Agustín Saelices notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of Club A Independiente's Silvestre Fidencio. Silvestre Fidencio was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Ecuador's Luis Andino pulled a muscle in his leg after 43 minutes and couldn't finish the game. When Concetto Guarrera was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 43 minutes had been played. Ecuador's Diego Mancebo was substituted for Luis Andino. Silvestre Fidencio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 47th minute of play. When Ecuador's Cristian Sancho in 47 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. Silvestre Fidencio guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. Silvestre Fidencio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 54 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Silvestre Fidencio made a fantastic save in the 58th minute, when Cristian Sancho sent off a good shot on target. Cristian Sancho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Silvestre Fidencio in the 63rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Felix Montess short, quick shot in the 66thth minute got Silvestre Fidencio to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After a defensive mix-up in Club A Independiente's zone, Cristian Sancho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Silvestre Fidencio came out of the goal and Cristian Sancho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Silvestre Fidencio in the 81st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Silvestre Fidencio was a little too slow when Cristian Sancho got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 83rd minute. The score was now 0-3. 87 minutes into the game, Daniel Zorita was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ecuador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Club A Independiente the free kick. In the 89th match minute, Club A Independiente was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Virgilio Arotza to maneuver through the defense. Agustín Saelices who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 91stth minute tested the skills of Silvestre Fidencio when he managed to save the team from getting behind. With a little luck, Club A Independiente's Silvestre Fidencio got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Silvestre Fidencio in the 94th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Silvestre Fidencio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Agustín Saelices in the 95th minute of play.
