Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. Branislav Velchevski tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ecuador's Diego Mancebo was substituted for Cristian Sancho. Branislav Velchevski made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 13th minute of play. Branislav Velchevski didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Daniel Zorita went, in the 13th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Branislav Velchevski showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Felix Montenegro, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Elpidio Francis's shot from short distance in the 22nd minute. In the 25th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. Branislav Velchevski showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 26th minute of the match. André Monclús could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 34th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. After 35 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Esteban Iztal who took care of the corner kick. Esteban Iztal made a great header on ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's corner, it was just that Ecuador's Julio Vera managed to reach the ball for a save. 37 minutes into the match, ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's Elpidio Francis sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Felix Montes hit a great ball. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

An unexpectedly hard shot by André Monclús in the 54th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 57th minute Elpidio Francis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Camilo Gisbert didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Elpidio Francis in the 61st minute of play. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Elpidio Francis in the 63rd minute of the match. Felix Montenegro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 71st minute, Elpidio Francis left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. 80 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when André Monclús came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. André Monclús's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 84th minute of play. In the 85th minute of the match ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Branislav Velchevski was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-3. 91 minutes into the match, ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's Bonifacio Suarez sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Ecuador played a much better game than ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA and deserved their victory. The ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
