Wieslaw Panasewicz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luz Tejedor, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. Julian Murillo struck a weak shot in the 13th minute. Wieslaw Panasewicz didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Peru. Wieslaw Panasewicz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Julian Murillo in the 13th minute of play. Dong Jian Yang sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 31st minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wieslaw Panasewicz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 33 minutes into the game, Dong Jian Yang cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Rolando Noboa was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Milagros Fraga in the 79th minute of play forced Gimnasia y tiro's goalkeeper Wieslaw Panasewicz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Peru's Eliseo Alcocer was substituted for Moises Gayoso. A sloppy throw-in by Endre Szentes in the 84th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Peru's Anthony Alvarado. Rafael Gallo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wieslaw Panasewicz read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 85th minute of play. Rafael Gallo took the ball and in the 87 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Wieslaw Panasewicz. Wieslaw Panasewicz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-1. After having played for 92 minutes, Rafael Gallo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Peru's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rafael Gallo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 95th minute, Rafael Gallo made a precise shot to the right of Wieslaw Panasewicz. Gimnasia y tiro's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-1. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Peru had played much better football throughout.
