A beautiful save bye SAPRIMECKBEL's goalie prevented a goal. In the 20th match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jose Correa to maneuver through the defense. After some careless play in the SAPRIMECKBEL defense, Tomas Illescas kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Guillermo Araya. The SAPRIMECKBEL fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Guillermo Araya should have stopped the shot. 29 minutes into the match, Bernardo Saborio had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. Venezuela's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Bernardo Saborio was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Guillermo Araya took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Patricio Costa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The crowd rose to their feet as Rex Serrano kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Jonathan Ferrant. That made the score 2-1 in the 35 minute of play. Orlando Cordoba charged in rather forcefully in the 39th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Orlando Cordoba the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, SAPRIMECKBEL's Orlando Cordoba got a free kick in the 40th minute. In the 45th minute of the match Orlando Cordoba sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jonathan Ferrant skillfully saved the ball. If Patricio Costa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

Tomas Illescass short, quick shot in the 53rdth minute got Guillermo Araya to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Tomas Illescas might have been able to make a better finish in the 54th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Guillermo Araya. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tomas Illescas ran back to his position shaking his head. The supporters of Venezuela booed when SAPRIMECKBEL was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 64 match minutes in a wonderful position. Teodoro Padilla didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 69 played minutes SAPRIMECKBEL got a freekick which was hit by Victor Thome. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tomas Illescas got free with Guillermo Araya in the 71st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Teodoro Padilla hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. Tomas Illescas, 75 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Orlando Cordoba made in the 78th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Victor Thome. Tomas Illescas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Guillermo Araya having to interfere. 81 minutes into the game, Patricio Costa recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Guillermo Araya. Patricio Costa showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-2. Tomas Illescas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 91 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Bernardo Saborio came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
