Spectators: 44 (Terracing: 34, Seating: 10, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Tomas Illescas started the match with the kick off. The supporters of Newells Old Boys booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jonathan Venegas didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jonathan Venegas's late challenge caught a Newells Old Boys's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jonathan Venegas helped the player get up and apologised. In the 3rd minute, Jonathan Venegas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Silverio Tuste came up free with the goalie in the 4th minute, the Newells Old Boys fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Silverio Tuste couldn't finish the play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Silverio Tuste in the 6th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jonathan Ferrant prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Horacio Errapel, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tomas Illescas's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 12thth minute, Serafino Jurdan skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. In the 20th minute, Silverio Tuste ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jonathan Ferrant was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. In the 27th minute the ball was on its way in behind Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Serafino Jurdan, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Anastasio Berasko received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Jonathan Ferrant tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 35th minute Horacio Errapel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The throw-in from Cristian Calderon in the 40th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Venezuela's Alex Chicote. When the match clock showed 41 minutes, the score became 0-3 when Silverio Tuste sped through Venezuela's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. A collision led to Newells Old Boys getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. Cao Liang hit a great ball. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-3 lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Silverio Tuste stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 61 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Silverio Tuste came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 66th minute of the match, managed to save Venezuela from getting a goal against them. Newells Old Boys's Serafino Jurdan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomas Illescas in the 69th minute of play. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Silverio Tuste in the 73rd minute of the match. The corner led Newells Old Boys's André-Pierre Gignac to fire away a dangerous shot which Jonathan Ferrant despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. 79 minutes into the game, Horacio Errapel threw the ball into play from the sideline. Venezuela's Alex Chicote quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tomas Illescas in the 81st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Serafino Jurdan prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Illescas in the 82nd minute of play forced Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Serafino Jurdan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Jonathan Venegas got a free kick in the 85th minute. Silverio Tuste was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 86th minute. Newells Old Boys's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. In the 91stth minute of the game Silverio Tuste who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 93 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Silverio Tuste came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 94th minute, Patricio Costa ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Serafino Jurdan was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-3. The Venezuela manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Newells Old Boys to win.
