The audience thought a goal was coming when Lautaro Mancebo got free with 周振鹏 in the 16th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Lautaro Mancebo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lautaro Mancebos short, quick shot in the 19thth minute got 周振鹏 to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 20 minutes into the match, Mexico's Joel Gaona sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that 周振鹏 narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Raí Sabóia's late challenge caught a Mexico's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
