Lautaro Navarro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ermanno Zoff in the 17th minute of the match. Ermanno Zoff blasted a shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Lautaro Navarro having to make a save. 22 minutes into the match, Honduras's goal looked a bit too open when Ermanno Zoff came free, but Lautaro Navarro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Feyli Ragazzi getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Arrigo Antonini hit a great ball. In the 25th minute Honduras were awarded a corner. Edmundo Espiga went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Honduras's corner Edmundo Espiga fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Patricio Fillol quite easily take care of the ball. Patricio Fillol didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when Honduras's Edmundo Espiga shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 0-1 in the ordered_time% minute. Ermanno Zoff ran back to his position shaking his head. 40 minutes into the match, Honduras's goalkeeper Lautaro Navarro had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ermanno Zoff. Honduras's Sebastian Villa managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Elia Danza in the 45 minute of the game. In the 47th minute Edmundo Espiga shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Patricio Fillol saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Edmundo Espiga to strike the kick off in the second half. Patricio Fillol showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edmundo Espiga, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute.
