The supporters of Ecuador booed when Soliera was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gürcan Okuyan didn't get a good kick on the ball. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eusebiu Nedelciu in the 23rd minute of the match. But to his dismay, Cristian Sancho quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gürcan Okuyan in the 30th minute of play. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gürcan Okuyan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jeremías Ledesma showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. In the 39th minute Gürcan Okuyan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. Soliera's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The referee showed Alberto Leoni the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Alberto Leoni hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. The Soliera players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
