After some fancy dribbling in the 44th minute, Roy Makaay managed to get in a good position for a shot. Villaverde Celeste Clube's supporters rose to their feet, but Roy Makaay was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Pedro Manzanares breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Roy Makaay stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Colombia's Pedro Manzanares played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roy Makaay in the 80th minute of play. Abram Secada's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Nenko Reza firmly grabbed it by the left post. The audience was convinced that Roy Makaay's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Pedro Manzanares was relentless in the 84th minute of the game. In the 86th minute Santino Seco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nenko Reza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Edmund Wawrukiewicz kicked well hit freekick during the 88th minute of the match. Villaverde Celeste Clube's Armandinho Xavier was substituted for Guo Ao. Villaverde Celeste Clube were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Colombia for a fine match.
