Marcos Cotilla took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wellington Bezerra, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Miguel Miralles received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Caio Ferreira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 21 minutes into the game, Isidoro Sarmiento cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. The Panama fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Marcos Cotilla should have stopped the shot.
