Carlos Alberto Soares could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 8th minute of the match, but Jonathan Ferrant made a huge save. In the 9th minute of the match, Walmir Pombal got a very nice opportunity to score, but Jonathan Ferrant was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Reko Nybacka made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Illescas in the 15th minute of play. Tomas Illescas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 22 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Carlos Alberto Soares came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Carlos Alberto Soares, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Carlos Alberto Soares came up free with the goalie in the 25th minute, the Catugi FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Carlos Alberto Soares couldn't finish the play. In the 31st minute, Carlos Alberto Soares left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Catugi FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. An unexpected shot in the 34th minute by Walmir Pombal got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. When Venezuela's Tomas Illescas in the 42nd minute got a chance for a shot 42nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Catugi FC's goalie prevented a goal. The attack was good, but when Carlos Alberto Soares in the 44th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. The supporters of Catugi FC booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jose Correa didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Tomas Illescas made a kick off. Jaime França kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. Jonathan Ferrant stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Carlos Alberto Soares's shot from short distance in the 55th minute. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Carlos Alberto Soares in the 59th minute of play. When the match clock showed 63 minutes, the score became 2-0 when Carlos Alberto Soares sped through Venezuela's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. After recieving a nice pass, Catugi FC's Benjamim Alvarenga tried to score from far away in the 77th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. 79 minutes into the match, Catugi FC's goal looked a bit too open when Tomas Illescas came free, but Reko Nybacka reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 81 played minutes Catugi FC got a freekick which was hit by Jaime França. 85 minutes into the game, Rigoberto Mina was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Venezuela's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Catugi FC the free kick. The supporters of Catugi FC booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rigoberto Mina didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Rigoberto Mina got a free kick in the 94th minute. Catugi FC's Benjamim Alvarenga got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Catugi FC's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
