The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Reko Nybacka showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After a rather tough play, Catugi FC's Walmir Pombal got a free kick in the 10th minute. Reko Nybacka took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carlos Alberto Soares, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Carlos Alberto Soares tried to sneak it across the goal line. Benjamim Alvarenga made a great header on Catugi FC's corner, it was just that Ecuador's Julio Vera managed to reach the ball for a save. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carlos Alberto Soares in the 27th minute of play. Felix Montenegro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 37 minutes of play, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Reko Nybacka was left in no man's land by his defense there! After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Luis Andino got a free kick in the 41st minute. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Carlos Alberto Soares in the 43rd minute of play. 46 minutes into the match, Catugi FC's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Reko Nybacka reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Carlos Alberto Soares stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Carlos Alberto Soares's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Reko Nybacka, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. After taking down the ball on Ecuador's corner Daniel Zorita fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Reko Nybacka quite easily take care of the ball. After 67 minutes, Cristian Sancho made it 0-4 with a short kick to the right side. Catugi FC's Reko Nybacka tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 75th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Reko Nybacka saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Julio Vera was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Walmir Pombal in the 85th minute of play. 88 minutes into the match, Catugi FC's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Reko Nybacka reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Walmir Pombal kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot.
