In the 22ndth minute of the game Daniel Zorita who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Catugi FC's Reko Nybacka was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Reko Nybacka made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luis Andino in the 24th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Carlos Alberto Soares in the 28th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Reko Nybacka showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 32nd minute of the match. In the 37th minute Catugi FC were awarded a corner. Benjamim Alvarenga went to the cornerflag to take it. Benjamim Alvarenga made a great header on Catugi FC's corner, it was just that Ecuador's Julio Vera managed to reach the ball for a save. The crowd rose to their feet as Catugi FC's Walmir Pombal slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Julio Vera. That made the score 1-0 after 38 minutes of play. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carlos Alberto Soares in the 42nd minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Walmir Pombal stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Walmir Pombal tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

In the 61st minute of the match, Luis Andino tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Reko Nybacka saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 73rd minute of play forced Catugi FC's goalkeeper Reko Nybacka to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Agustín Saelicess short, quick shot in the 74thth minute got Reko Nybacka to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Walmir Pombal kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. Catugi FC's Reko Nybacka played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 84th minute of play. Cristian Sancho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Reko Nybacka read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 86th minute of play. After 87 minutes Catugi FC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Daniel Zorita almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Catugi FC's Reko Nybacka did a great save. In the 96th minute, Luis Andino made a precise shot to the right of Reko Nybacka. Catugi FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-2. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Ecuador players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
