The Municipales FC fans' excitement grew in the 24th match minute when Municipales FC's Sidney Joannes looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 31st minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pipis Culot saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Peru's Luz Tejedor was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Pipis Culot in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Pipis Culot took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Julian Murillo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 44th minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pipis Culot saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Peru's attentive Alonso Berganza managed to snatch the ball when Roberto-Carlos Ligero made a throw-in in the 45th minute of the game. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Peru were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
