After having played for 23 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Laércio Loureiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kléber Salles having to interfere. The supporters of Inter de São Paulo booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Primitivo Andino didn't get a good kick on the ball. 43 minutes into the match, Inter de São Paulo's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Kléber Salles reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Inter de São Paulo made a substitution. Yan Ceresso replaced César Alagoano. Marquinhos Botelho's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. Inter de São Paulo's Kléber Salles proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 59th minute of the match, managed to save Inter de São Paulo from getting a goal against them. The crowd rose to their feet as Cristian Sancho kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Kléber Salles. That made the score 0-1 in the 61 minute of play. A well-hit corner resulted in Yan Ceresso heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Daniel Zorita didn't miss a given chance and shot in short distance 0-2 via right post in the game's 73rd minute. Ecuador's supporters showed their exhuberating excitement! In a very dangerous position, a player in Ecuador fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 76th minute. Penalty! Inter de São Paulo's Gerson Coelho was substituted for Laércio Loureiro. Gerson Coelho might have been able to make a better finish in the 94th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. The supporters of Inter de São Paulo booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 97 match minutes in a wonderful position. Juan Sebastián Puig didn't get a good kick on the ball. Marquinhos Botelho blasted a shot towards the goal in the 98th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Julio Vera having to make a save. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
