The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Mile Šljivar during the 3rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Elder de Toledo showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Ibrica Madunić's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ibrica Madunić helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to GNK Dinamo Zagreb™ getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Ibrica Madunić hit a great ball. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 9th minute after GNK Dinamo Zagreb™'s defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. 12 minutes into the match, GNK Dinamo Zagreb™'s goal looked a bit too open when Felix Montenegro came free, but Elder de Toledo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 13 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elder de Toledo having to interfere. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a good chance for a goal in the 20th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The Ecuador fans' excitement grew in the 23rd match minute when Ecuador's Cristian Sancho looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 26th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. The Ecuador fans' excitement grew in the 27th match minute when Ecuador's Cristian Sancho looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Elder de Toledo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 35 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Luis Andino sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Elder de Toledo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After some careless play in the GNK Dinamo Zagreb™ defense, Felix Montenegro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Elder de Toledo. The GNK Dinamo Zagreb™ fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Elder de Toledo should have stopped the shot. When Bruno Šimunko came up free with the goalie in the 42nd minute, the GNK Dinamo Zagreb™ fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bruno Šimunko couldn't finish the play. Elder de Toledo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 44th minute of the match. Elder de Toledo came out of the goal in the 44th minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Daniel Zorita. But to his dismay, Daniel Zorita quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-5. 48 minutes into the match, Bruno Šimunko had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Julio Vera. Ecuador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Bruno Šimunko was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-5. GNK Dinamo Zagreb™'s Arijan Zlatarević was substituted for Ninoslav Stipanić. Disappointed in the 1-5 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Elder de Toledo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Elder de Toledo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. In the 66th match minute, GNK Dinamo Zagreb™ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mile Šljivar to maneuver through the defense. Elder de Toledo made a fantastic save in the 68th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. In the 69th minute, Camilo Gisbert hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ninoslav Baburica in the 70th minute of play. Luis Andino sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, GNK Dinamo Zagreb™'s Mile Šljivar got a free kick in the 75th minute. Ninoslav Baburica hit a great freekick 77 minutes into the match. Elder de Toledo made a fantastic save in the 79th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 84 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Felix Montenegro sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Elder de Toledo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 87th minute, Luis Andino managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Luis Andino was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Elder de Toledo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Kelvin Coleman thought of kicking away a contribution in front of goal but messed it up so badly that the ball went to the right of an astonished Elder de Toledo, a very annoying self made goal in the 92nd minute which led to 1-6. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bruno Šimunko in the 95th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Zachary Parzysz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the match was over Ecuador could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than GNK Dinamo Zagreb™ throughout the match.
