The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

Lothar Pfirrmann kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. In the 93rd minute Luis Andino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Frederick Böhmer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ecuador were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
