Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tuncer İlbaşı, who was totally free with the ball in the 2nd minute. If Peter Mpenza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 4th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 9th minute the ball was on its way in behind Canarinho Atordoado's goalkeeper Dé Mello, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dé Mello having to interfere. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Felix Montenegro got a free kick in the 20th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Luiz Leo got free with Julio Vera in the 21st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Dé Mello made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 24th minute of play. After taking down the ball on Ecuador's corner Juan Sebastián Puig fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Dé Mello quite easily take care of the ball. In the 27th minute, Peter Mpenza got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 34 minutes, Luiz Leo made it 1-0 with a short kick to the right side. Ecuador's Julio Vera tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Tuncer İlbaşı sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Peter Mpenza, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Luiz Leo's shot from short distance in the 45th minute. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Luiz Leo to strike the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Dé Mello narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Dé Mello came out and tried to block the shot, but Daniel Zorita slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 55th minute. After 60 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Peter Mpenza who took care of the corner kick. After a defensive mix-up in Canarinho Atordoado's zone, Daniel Zorita stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dé Mello came out of the goal and Daniel Zorita tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 78 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Camilo Gisbert. When Peter Mpenza came up free with the goalie in the 79th minute, the Canarinho Atordoado fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Peter Mpenza couldn't finish the play. In the 83rd minute, Stayko Gorbanov hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 84th minute, Teodoro Jacinto got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Dé Mello tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 96th minute Luiz Leo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Ecuador players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented Canarinho Atordoado from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
