The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Ricardo Zorita showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alistair Leslie, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. The supporters of Khachatryan booed when El Salvador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Abram Luque didn't get a good kick on the ball. El Salvador's Ricardo Zorita played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Peter Gamble in the 9th minute of play. 20 minutes into the game, Khachatryan's Alistair Leslie nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ricardo Zorita made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. After 23 minutes, Marco Tamayo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the El Salvador and the Khachatryan players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, El Salvador's Marco Tamayo got a free kick in the 23rd minute. Ricardo Zorita took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jeramy LeBlanc, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Peter Gamble fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ricardo Zorita having to interfere. 30 minutes into the match, Alistair Leslie had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ricardo Zorita. El Salvador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Alistair Leslie was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. 34 minutes into the match, El Salvador's goal looked a bit too open when Alistair Leslie came free, but Ricardo Zorita reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 35 minutes into the match, Kraig Madden notched a goal, 0-4, to the right of El Salvador's Ricardo Zorita. Ricardo Zorita was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Moises Fernandino came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the El Salvador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Moises Fernandino couldn't finish the play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-5 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

After having played for 57 minutes, Abram Luque managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. El Salvador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Abram Luque was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 59 minutes into the match, El Salvador's goal looked a bit too open when Alistair Leslie came free, but Ricardo Zorita reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marco Tamayo was shown his second yellow card after 59 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. Ricardo Zorita stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Alistair Leslie's shot from short distance in the 63rd minute. In the 66th minute the ball was on its way in behind Khachatryan's goalkeeper Miguel Covington, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Alistair Leslie in the 67th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ricardo Zorita prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a rather tough play, El Salvador's Joshua Curbelo got a free kick in the 71st minute. Jeramy LeBlanc recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 74 minutes into the game, Khachatryan's Alistair Leslie nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ricardo Zorita made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-6. 78 minutes into the game, Alistair Leslie lined in a short shot 1-7 behind a frustrated Ricardo Zorita. 85 minutes into the game, Jeramy LeBlanc was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Khachatryan's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave El Salvador the free kick. In the 85th minute, Jeramy LeBlanc hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ricardo Zorita made a fantastic save in the 88th minute, when Peter Gamble sent off a good shot on target. In the 95th minute, Levon Khachaturyan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. El Salvador's Mateo Leguizamo got a good chance for a goal in the 96th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When the final whistle sounded Khachatryan left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than El Salvador.
