Spectators: 50 (Terracing: 38, Seating: 11, VIP seats: 1) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Clayton Gol started the match with the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Damaso Xacintu got free with Rolando Noboa in the 2nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Sheriff's Yahia van der Saar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joaquin Prats in the 7th minute of play. Yahia van der Saar showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Joaquin Prats, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. Peru's attentive Eliseo Mina managed to snatch the ball when Dragoş Bălace made a throw-in in the 10th minute of the game. The throw-in from Dragoş Bălace in the 12th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Peru's Eliseo Mina. 16 minutes into the match, Peru's goal looked a bit too open when Clayton Gol came free, but Rolando Noboa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Yahia van der Saar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Julian Murillo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 20 minutes into the match, Peru's Julian Murillo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Yahia van der Saar narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Yahia van der Saar showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Julian Murillo in the 23rd minute of the match. In the 27thth minute of the game Clayton Gol who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Peru's Rolando Noboa was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Yahia van der Saar stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Julian Murillo's shot from short distance in the 29th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Clayton Gol got free with Rolando Noboa in the 30th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Milagros Fraga might have been able to make a better finish in the 32nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Yahia van der Saar. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Milagros Fraga ran back to his position shaking his head. Yahia van der Saar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Julian Murillo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 35th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sheriff's goalkeeper Yahia van der Saar, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Damaso Xacintu in the 36th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rolando Noboa saved Peru from getting behind. The supporters of Peru booed when Sheriff was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sancho Denner didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Julian Murillo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Yahia van der Saar came out of the goal in the 55th minute to try and stop a shot by Peru's Luz Tejedor. But to his dismay, Luz Tejedor quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Sheriff's Akakios Trachanas was substituted for Dagan Pavlovic. In the 66th minute, Sancho Denner hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 70th minute Luz Tejedor shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Yahia van der Saar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 75 minutes into the match, Sheriff's Natalio Dominguez sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rolando Noboa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Sheriff were awarded a corner in the 76th minute after Peru's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Akakios Trachanas took the corner. After 76 played minutes Sheriff got a freekick which was hit by Natalio Dominguez. When Natalio Dominguez got the opportunity to take care of a free kick, it resulted in a really dangerous shot that almost went in the goal. Instead the ball hit the crossbar and flew out of bounds. Eliseo Mina received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Yahia van der Saar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Yahia van der Saar showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eliseo Mina, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. After some careless play in the Peru defense, Clayton Gol kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Rolando Noboa. The Peru fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Rolando Noboa should have stopped the shot. Peru made a substitution. Eliseo Alcocer replaced Moises Gayoso. Peru made a substitution. Antonio Tenorio replaced Luz Tejedor. Peru made a substitution. Rafael Gallo replaced Julian Murillo. The Sheriff support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
