Akis Sarafis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Milagros Fraga in the 7th minute of the match. In the 9th minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Akis Sarafis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Michelangelo Merganiotis kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Rolando Noboa. That made the score 1-0 in the 17 minute of play. In the 27th minute, Eliseo Mina ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Akis Sarafis was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. After a rather tough play, Peru's Alonso Berganza got a free kick in the 31st minute. After 32 minutes, Nikos Sterpis mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the AFC Ajax and the Peru players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 33rd minute, Nikos Sterpis hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Akis Sarafis took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Julian Murillo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 44 minutes into the match, AFC Ajax's goal looked a bit too open when Eliseo Mina came free, but Akis Sarafis reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Omiros Fasoulas's late challenge caught a Peru's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Omiros Fasoulas helped the player get up and apologised. In the 61st minute, Omiros Fasoulas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. AFC Ajax made a substitution. Aureo Morera replaced German Sarracino. The supporters of Peru booed when AFC Ajax was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Omiros Fasoulas didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Markos Seremetidis in the 68th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Rolando Noboa prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Markos Seremetidis in the 73rd minute of play forced Peru's goalkeeper Rolando Noboa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of AFC Ajax booed when Peru was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 74 match minutes in a wonderful position. Joaquin Prats didn't get a good kick on the ball. Akis Sarafis made an important save on a dangerous shot by Luz Tejedor in the 82nd minute. Peru made a substitution. Eliseo Alcocer replaced Moises Gayoso. Lambis Zacharatos made in the 85th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Peru's Eliseo Mina. Peru's attentive Eliseo Mina managed to snatch the ball when Lambis Zacharatos made a throw-in in the 88th minute of the game. Rafael Gallo had several of the AFC Ajax's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 89 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-2 score and a disappointed Akis Sarafis as he didn't even see the shot coming. 94 minutes into the game, Peru's Rafael Gallo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Akis Sarafis made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. Peru's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
