After taking down the ball on Sheriff's corner Dragoş Bălace fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Pedro Manzanares quite easily take care of the ball. With his leg Pedro Manzanares managed to avoid a goal in the 13thth minute, when Sheriff's Dragoş Bălace fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Sheriff's Yahia van der Saar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abram Sarmiento in the 17th minute of play. When Clayton Gol came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Sheriff fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Clayton Gol couldn't finish the play. After 31 played minutes Clayton Gol rounded Colombia's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 2-0. If Damaso Xacintu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Yahia van der Saar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Axel Montenegro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 37th minute Colombia were awarded a corner. A throw-in in the 46th minute of the game was made by Alejandro Rubin with Clayton Gol as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Abram Sarmiento made a kick off.
