In the 9th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. S.D NARCEA's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. 10 minutes into the game, Paquito Rey was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. S.D NARCEA's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ecuador the free kick. In the 10th match minute, S.D NARCEA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Paquito Rey to maneuver through the defense. After 11 played minutes Daniel Zorita shot from long distance. At first the shot seemed to be simple for S.D NARCEA's Germán Figueres to catch but Daniel Zorita was lucky. It became 0-1 after the goalkeeper had been careless and dropped the ball into goal. Calisto Zaplana scored 1-1 in the 17th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 21 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Eugeniusz Milko came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 22nd match minute, S.D NARCEA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Roldán Quijana to maneuver through the defense. S.D NARCEA's Germán Figueres played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 25th minute of play. The corner led S.D NARCEA's Félix Zărnescu to fire away a dangerous shot which Julio Vera despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Germán Figueres took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Juan Sebastián Puig, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Luis Andino's late challenge caught a S.D NARCEA's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Luis Andino helped the player get up and apologised. Luis Andino hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 43rd minute of play forced S.D NARCEA's goalkeeper Germán Figueres to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Eugeniusz Milko stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eugeniusz Milko, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. With a little luck, S.D NARCEA's Germán Figueres got control of the ball when Cristian Sancho tried to sneak it across the goal line. 64 minutes into the match, S.D NARCEA's goalkeeper Germán Figueres had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Agustín Saelices. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 74th minute after S.D NARCEA's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. Félix Zărnescu was slow to take the kick. During this time S.D NARCEA's players had a chance to rest. Felix Montes tried to clear up in front of the goal, but didn't succeed and rather the ball rolled into the own goal to the right of a despaired Julio Vera. An unnecessary self made goal, 2-1 in the 92nd minute. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Manel Quintanilla in the 97th minute of the match. In the 101st minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. Luis Andino was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Many of Ecuador's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Ecuador may have spent more time on the ball, but S.D NARCEA were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
