When Eduardo Fontirroig came up free with the goalie in the 16th minute, the Bolivia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Eduardo Fontirroig couldn't finish the play. After 31 played minutes Bolivia got a freekick which was hit by Alfonso de la Cruz. Agostinho de Amorim showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mario Fernandino in the 37th minute of the match. 40 minutes into the match, Bolivia's goal looked a bit too open when Bebeto Paiva came free, but Camilo Freixa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Agostinho de Amorim came out of the goal and Eduardo Fontirroig tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Mario Fernandino made a kick off. Bebeto Paiva sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
