The player immediately received a yellow card. Konstantinos Meletiou kicked well hit freekick during the 19th minute of the match. Olívio Correia took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alberto Tafalla, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee ignored Olympiacos FC's protests and gave Vaggelis Tassakos a yellow card for diving instead. In the 41st match minute, Olympiacos FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vaggelis Tassakos to maneuver through the defense. Lautaro Mancebo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Olívio Correia having to interfere. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Mexico were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
