Tomas Illescas kicked well hit freekick during the 2nd minute of the match. In the 4th minute, Jose Correa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 9 minutes into the game, Gervasio Godoy cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Jonathan Ferrant was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Jonathan Ferrant made a fantastic save in the 12th minute, when Inocencio Frichoso sent off a good shot on target. Jonathan Ferrant was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Inocencio Frichoso showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-0 in the 12 minute of play. The supporters of Venezuela booed when Punta Alvear was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Flavio Gergori didn't get a good kick on the ball. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jacinto Eleazar in the 16th minute of play. Jacinto Eleazar took the ball and in the 18 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jonathan Ferrant. Jonathan Ferrant dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Illescas in the 25th minute of play forced Punta Alvear's goalkeeper Venancio Oto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 26 minutes into the game, Ermegildo Heriberto recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Jonathan Ferrant. Ermegildo Heriberto showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 4-0. Ermegildo Heriberto received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Jonathan Ferrant tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some careless play in the Venezuela defense, Ermegildo Heriberto kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. The Venezuela fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jonathan Ferrant should have stopped the shot. Domingo Cordarrel was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 42 minutes into the match. When Tomas Illescas came up free with the goalie in the 43rd minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Illescas couldn't finish the play.

Punta Alvear's Venancio Oto proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 67th minute of the match, managed to save Punta Alvear from getting a goal against them. Rigoberto Mina kicked well hit freekick during the 69th minute of the match. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Inocencio Frichoso, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 71st minute Punta Alvear were awarded a corner. Edelmiro Veremundo went to the cornerflag to take it. The supporters of Venezuela booed when Punta Alvear was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bogdan Gopov didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jacinto Eleazar struck a weak shot in the 74th minute. Jonathan Ferrant didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Punta Alvear. With a little luck, Punta Alvear's Venancio Oto got control of the ball when Tomas Illescas tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 86th minute Tomas Illescas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Venancio Oto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Gervasio Godoy had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Punta Alvear's Venancio Oto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomas Illescas in the 95th minute of play. The supporters of Punta Alvear booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tomas Illescas didn't get a good kick on the ball. Venezuela's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
