A sloppy throw-in by Zvonimir Boban in the 17th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Peru's Eliseo Mina. Julian Murillo took the ball and in the 21 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Celedonio Lastur. Celedonio Lastur dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-3. Rolando Noboa made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lino Torres in the 27th minute. Rolando Noboa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dacian Hirean in the 31st minute of the match. 34 minutes into the match, Peru's Julian Murillo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Celedonio Lastur narrowly saved just below the crossbar.
