Phoenix's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Felix Montenegro was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. 11 minutes into the match, Cristian Sancho had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Roman Golob. Maciej Gollob went to the cornerflag to take it. A nice corner shot did that Maciej Gollob got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Julio Vera quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Tobiasz Kaszubowski struck a weak shot in the 21st minute. Julio Vera didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Phoenix. After some careless play in the Phoenix defense, Luz Palacio kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Roman Golob. The Phoenix fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Roman Golob should have stopped the shot. If Maciej Gollob had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Maciej Gollob, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A nice corner shot did that Maciej Gollob got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Julio Vera quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 33rd minute of play forced Phoenix's goalkeeper Roman Golob to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Ecuador's Luz Palacio in the 35th minute got a chance for a shot 35th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Phoenix's goalie prevented a goal. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Phoenix was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Maciej Gollob didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 40th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Roman Golob saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 42nd minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maciej Gollob in the 47th minute of play. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Maciej Gollob was the one to do the kick off. In the 52nd minute Iwo Mios shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Agustín Saelices could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 57th minute of the match, but Roman Golob made a huge save. In the 58th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luis Andino to maneuver through the defense. Phoenix's Roman Golob proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 62nd minute of the match, managed to save Phoenix from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 71st minute of play forced Phoenix's goalkeeper Roman Golob to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tobiasz Kaszubowski in the 72nd minute of play. Cristian Sancho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 76th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a little luck, Phoenix's Roman Golob got control of the ball when Felix Montenegro tried to sneak it across the goal line. Luis Andino could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 80th minute of the match, but Roman Golob made a huge save. When Phoenix's Maciej Gollob in the 91st minute got a chance for a shot 91st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Ecuador's goalie prevented a goal. After 93 played minutes Phoenix got a freekick which was hit by Mieszko Jarosz. Agustín Saelices sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
