Braulio Ledesma didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Tomas Berganza went, in the 18th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-3 was the resulting score. A sloppy throw-in by Jose Carita in the 21st minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Fortinducto's Hilario Calvet. 24 minutes into the match, Isidoro Sarmiento had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Braulio Ledesma. Fortinducto's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Isidoro Sarmiento was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-4. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tomas Berganza in the 28th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Braulio Ledesma prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Panama's Miguel Miralles suffered a sore thigh after 30 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Panama made a substitution. Oscar Laguna replaced Miguel Miralles. A collision led to Fortinducto getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Armando Naelio hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Fortinducto's zone, Tomas Berganza stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Braulio Ledesma came out of the goal and Tomas Berganza tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Tomas Berganza made a kick off.
