After a defensive mix-up in Uruguay's zone, Abelardo Bernabel stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Joaquin Gayoso came out of the goal and Abelardo Bernabel tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dariusz Adamski in the 13th minute of play. In the 14th minute, one of Uruguay:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Uruguay. Uruguay:s Joaquin Gayoso showed great skill when he stopped Joãozinho Quartiero:s penalty. 15 minutes into the match, Joãozinho Quartiero notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso. Joaquin Gayoso was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Joaquin Gayoso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dariusz Adamski, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. Dariusz Adamski's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Joaquin Gayoso read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 44th minute of play. Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 67th minute of the match, managed to save Uruguay from getting a goal against them. Dariusz Adamski could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 72nd minute of the match, but Joaquin Gayoso made a huge save. Dariusz Adamski who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 74thth minute tested the skills of Joaquin Gayoso when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After 79 minutes of play, Uruguay's Francisco Seco made it 2-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Ambrosio Dacio was left in no man's land by his defense there! Dariusz Adamski received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Joaquin Gayoso came out and tried to block the shot, but Dariusz Adamski slotted it home off the left post making it 2-5 in the 84th minute. Centeno made a substitution. Eugenio Ixidor replaced Abelardo Bernabel. Gogo Clodio made in the 88th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Uruguay's Alberto Gisbert. Toro Halland scored 2-6 in the 90th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Joaquin Gayoso, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Joaquin Gayoso made a fantastic save in the 93rd minute, when Toro Halland sent off a good shot on target. 95 minutes into the match, Uruguay's goal looked a bit too open when Eugenio Ixidor came free, but Joaquin Gayoso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Centeno eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
