The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience was convinced that Radamel Oakley's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rolando Noboa was relentless in the 33rd minute of the game. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

Peru's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Radamel Oakley was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-2. Peru's Antonio Tenorio was substituted for Luz Tejedor. The supporters of Peru booed when Surahammar was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Billy Fristedt didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rafael Gallo struck a weak shot in the 85th minute. Jan Lindström didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Peru. Efraim Gilabert kicked well hit freekick during the 94th minute of the match. Rolando Noboa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from André Pettersson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rolando Noboa came out of the goal in the 95th minute to try and stop a shot by Surahammar's André Pettersson. But to his dismay, André Pettersson quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-2. Many of Peru's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Peru may have spent more time on the ball, but Surahammar were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
