An unexpectedly hard shot by Cassius Byrne in the 5th minute of play forced Academica Pulheim's goalkeeper Paul Heyckendorf to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Paul Heyckendorf made a fantastic save in the 7th minute, when Cassius Byrne sent off a good shot on target. After a rather tough play, USA's Edward Mcdonald got a free kick in the 14th minute. The corner led Academica Pulheim's Lutz Golke to fire away a dangerous shot which Marco Day despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. When Zach Harrison came up free with the goalie in the 22nd minute, the USA fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Zach Harrison couldn't finish the play. 26 minutes into the match, USA's goal looked a bit too open when Alex Mansilha came free, but Marco Day reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 27 minutes into the match, Academica Pulheim's goal looked a bit too open when Edward Mcdonald came free, but Paul Heyckendorf reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 37 minutes, Kurt Ahrem managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Academica Pulheim's supporters crossed their fingers, but Kurt Ahrem was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Gary Lineker fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marco Day having to interfere. Paul Heyckendorf showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Monty Rogers, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. In the 46th minute, Jenson Smith hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Alex Mansilha made the kick off in the second half. Kurt Ahrem could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 51st minute of the match, but Marco Day made a huge save. In the 55th minute of the match, Gary Lineker tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Marco Day saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Academica Pulheim made a substitution. Zbigniew Setara replaced Kurt Ahrem. Academica Pulheim's Maxime Vrints was substituted for Lutz Golke. In the 58th minute Academica Pulheim were awarded a corner. Alex Mansilha went to the cornerflag to take it. Paul Heyckendorf showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Monty Rogers in the 60th minute of the match. 62 minutes into the match, USA's goalkeeper Marco Day had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Maxime Vrints. Academica Pulheim's Hugó Bøss was substituted for Joachim Kretschmer. USA's Sam Campbell was substituted for Cassius Byrne. With his leg Marco Day managed to avoid a goal in the 70thth minute, when Academica Pulheim's Alex Mansilha fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Marco Day made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Maxime Vrints in the 74th minute of play. Marco Day showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Maxime Vrints, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. USA made a substitution.
