Jonathan Ferrant tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 13 minutes into the match, Erasmo Simão had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. Venezuela's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Erasmo Simão was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Erasmo Simão in the 17th minute of play. Grentino FC's Falcão Sampaio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomas Illescas in the 21st minute of play. With a little luck, Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant got control of the ball when Erasmo Simão tried to sneak it across the goal line. Tomas Illescas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Tomas Illescas made a kick off. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Erasmo Simão, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Erasmo Simão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. In the 74th minute, Froilan Calvino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 76th minute, Nereo Enol managed to get in a good position for a shot. Grentino FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Nereo Enol was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jonathan Ferrant breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
