Pirquitas's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Axel Tasis ran over to the corner to take the kick. The supporters of Pirquitas booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hugo Ferrant didn't get a good kick on the ball. 8 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Celedonio Amor came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Alan Moruga charged in rather forcefully in the 11th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alan Moruga the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Modesto Burni in the 16th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Lautaro Puig got a free kick in the 17th minute. In the 18th match minute, Pirquitas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Guaberto Arixo to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 20 minutes, Eliseo Noboa managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Costa Rica's supporters crossed their fingers, but Eliseo Noboa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Serafino Azevedo in the 28th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 29 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Guaberto Arixo came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Eliseo Noboa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 32nd minute Guaberto Arixo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Modesto Burni, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 36 minutes, Guaberto Arixo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Alan Moruga hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. 42 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Modesto Burni came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 43rd minute Pirquitas were awarded a corner. Celedonio Amor went to the cornerflag to take it. Celedonio Amor made a great header on Pirquitas's corner, it was just that Costa Rica's Benito Sanz managed to reach the ball for a save. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Hugo Ferrant during the 45th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Mauro Dalmai hit a great ball. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Romulo Orlondon in the 61st minute of play. Costa Rica's defense didn't have a chance, in the 65th minute, when Guaberto Arixo scored to the left of an out of position Benito Sanz, making the score, 1-3. Guaberto Arixo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. In the 73rdth minute of the game Serafino Azevedo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Costa Rica's Benito Sanz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Modesto Burni had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Guaberto Arixo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 84th minute Modesto Burni shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Benito Sanz stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Serafino Azevedo's shot from short distance in the 89th minute. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 94th minute of the match, managed to save Costa Rica from getting a goal against them.
