The audience thought a goal was coming when Mariano Lacasa got free with Pepe Santoro in the 3rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Mariano Lacasa blasted a shot towards the goal in the 4th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Pepe Santoro having to make a save. With a little luck, Independiente's Pepe Santoro got control of the ball when Mariano Lacasa tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Mariano Lacasa came up free with the goalie in the 8th minute, the Chile fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mariano Lacasa couldn't finish the play. In the 12th minute, Mariano Lacasa left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Chile fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Thiago Pliego showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sören Bengtsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. Mariano Lacasa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 19th minute. Pepe Santoro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Thiago Pliego made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jorg Pieters in the 20th minute of play. With a little luck, Independiente's Pepe Santoro got control of the ball when Mariano Lacasa tried to sneak it across the goal line. 26 minutes into the match, Independiente's goalkeeper Pepe Santoro had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Mariano Lacasa. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Isidoro Beltran made a kick off. In the 52nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Independiente's goalkeeper Pepe Santoro, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mariano Lacasa in the 55th minute of play forced Independiente's goalkeeper Pepe Santoro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
