Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpected shot in the 35th minute by Karim Decottignies got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. In the 39th minute Felix Montenegro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Youri Maguet saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Felix Montenegro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Youri Maguet having to interfere. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 45th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Daniel Zorita made a kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. In the 85th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Youri Maguet saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 86th minute, Joe Plantin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
