In the 16th minute Edmundo Espiga shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Claudio-Paul Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Claudio-Paul Taffarel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edmundo Espiga, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. After 20 minutes Inter de Melão's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Edmundo Espiga who took care of the corner kick. A nice corner shot did that Edmundo Espiga got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Claudio-Paul Taffarel quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Claudio-Paul Taffarel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edmundo Espiga, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Claudio-Paul Taffarel didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Edmundo Espiga went, in the 25th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. The audience was convinced that Edmundo Espiga's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Claudio-Paul Taffarel was relentless in the 28th minute of the game. When Honduras's Edmundo Espiga, in the 28th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Honduras. Honduras's Lautaro Navarro proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 30th minute of the match, managed to save Honduras from getting a goal against them. 39 minutes into the game, Honduras's Edmundo Espiga nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Claudio-Paul Taffarel made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. After a defensive mix-up in Inter de Melão's zone, Sebastian Villa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Claudio-Paul Taffarel came out of the goal and Sebastian Villa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Edmundo Espiga had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-3 lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Edmundo Espiga stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Honduras's Moises Tafalla got a good chance for a goal in the 54th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Claudio-Paul Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edmundo Espiga in the 62nd minute of play. Tobias Zachrisson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 64th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Claudio-Paul Taffarel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sebastian Villa, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. Edmundo Espiga received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 74th minute. Claudio-Paul Taffarel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some careless play in the Honduras defense, Delfim Paraense kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lautaro Navarro. The Honduras fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Lautaro Navarro should have stopped the shot. If Edmundo Espiga had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Claudio-Paul Taffarel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Edmundo Espiga in the 85th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edmundo Espiga in the 94th minute of play forced Inter de Melão's goalkeeper Claudio-Paul Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Honduras's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
