The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Tadeusz Bielatowicz in the 3rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Thanks to some nice moves Daniel Zorita could shoot a difficult shot in the 9th minute, which Tadeusz Bielatowicz however easily saved by the left post. When Emil Kapera fell near the penalty area in the 10th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored COSMOS's protests and gave Emil Kapera a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to COSMOS getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Emil Kapera hit a great ball. Luis Andino kicked well hit freekick during the 15th minute of the match. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Isaac Verduin kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. Ryszard Cempa kicked well hit freekick during the 24th minute of the match. COSMOS's defense didn't have a chance, in the 29th minute, when Cristian Sancho scored to the left of an out of position Tadeusz Bielatowicz, making the score, 2-1. Felix Montenegro's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Tadeusz Bielatowicz firmly grabbed it by the left post. If Nicklas Karlsson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. COSMOS made a substitution. Zenon Kuszczak replaced Napoleon Skorny. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nicklas Karlsson to make the kick off. Agustín Saelices fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tadeusz Bielatowicz having to interfere. In the 54th minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the last second Julio Vera throw himself and got hold of the ball when Nicklas Karlsson in the 56thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. 61 minutes into the match, Luis Andino notched a goal, 3-1, to the right of COSMOS's Tadeusz Bielatowicz. Tadeusz Bielatowicz was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nicklas Karlsson in the 64th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 70th minute Isaac Verduin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, COSMOS's Jerzy Turak got a free kick in the 72nd minute. Zenon Kuszczak kicked well hit freekick during the 75th minute of the match. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Andrzej Juskowiak, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the match clock showed 85 minutes, the score became 3-2 when Isaac Verduin sped through Ecuador's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Julio Vera. Jerzy Turak kicked well hit freekick during the 93rd minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 95th minute, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Cristian Sancho was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tadeusz Bielatowicz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
