Holger Vester showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. Holger Vester took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Holger Vester didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Daniel Zorita went, in the 28th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Felix Montes hit a great ball. The audience was convinced that Cristian Sancho's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Holger Vester was relentless in the 34th minute of the game. Cristian Sancho scored 0-2 in the 36th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Holger Vester, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 44th minute Agustín Saelices shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Holger Vester saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Celedonio Dominguez sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The Hammarby IF players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ecuador were winning 0-2.

Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Gösta Söderberg recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 63rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Hammarby IF booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 66 match minutes in a wonderful position. Camilo Gisbert didn't get a good kick on the ball. Francesco Totti recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 71st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ola Bremming in the 74th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
